Obesity in Ayurveda
Obesity is called Sthoulyam in Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, there is an imbalance between digestive fire (Agni) and toxins (Ama) which disrupts the metabolism of adipose tissue (Fear Dhatu). Ama also blocks the tissue channels in the body, causing a change in Vata Dosha, which is the energetic principle of the air and ether elements. Obesity in Modern Way Obesity is the most common nutritional disorder of the modern era. It is characterized by an excessive accumulation of fat in the body. The continued indulgence in high-fat fried foods coupled with a sedentary lifestyle results in the blockage of excess fat in various channels of the body. Obesity, in turn, causes a number of metabolic disorders like hypertension, diabetes, irregular digestion, etc. It can also affect social life. Being overweight, if left unchecked, can lead to obesity. Are You Obese? Obesity is a condition when a person's BMI (Body Mass Index) is over 30. Just take the ratio of the bodyweight (in kg) to the square of the person's height (in meters) to get the BMI. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 indicates that the person is overweight and it is better to exercise appropriate measures to lose weight and maintain health at this stage. A BMI of 30 or more indicates obesity.
